HEALTHIER, STRONGER
RELATIONSHIPS

Welcome to MCEFT

Melbourne Community For Emotionally Focused Therapy

The Melbourne Community for Emotionally Focused Therapy (MCEFT) provides support for therapists and the wider community about Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples. EFT helps couples in distress to develop stronger and healthier relationships.

We’re here to support mental health professionals in learning about this effective, evidence-based approach to strengthening relationships. Whether you’re new to EFT or have been a long-term EFT therapist. MCEFT is affiliated with the ICEEFT and here to support you with quality training, peer support and opportunities to connect with the Emotionally Focused Therapy Melbourne community.

If you’d like to join a group of like-minded professionals, we offer membership for both students and qualified therapists. Benefits of joining MCEFT as a member include community support, discounts on professional development events, and a listing on our therapist directory once you’ve completed the EFT Externship and Core Skills A&B.

Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy helps you strengthen and deepen your relationship in a caring and supportive context, generating greater closeness, connection and intimacy. Emotions are key to who we are in our intimate relationship. Your EFT therapist will work with you as a couple to renew your bond by increasing the awareness of your emotion and guide you through new and transformative conversations. Each therapist listed on our directory has undertaken training in the fundamentals and advanced skills of EFT, so you can trust you’ll find a trained professional.

EFT is a short-term (8-20 sessions depending on the level of distress), structured therapy. Research studies find that 70-75% of couples move from distress to recovery in 10-12 sessions and 90% show significant improvement. It is currently the best delineated and most empirically validated couples therapy of the past 25 years.
